The Cheshire Lions Club was incorporated October 19, 1949. It is part of the larger Lions Club International. There are approximately 46,000 clubs throughout the world with 1.4 million members, making it one of the largest service organizations in the world, whose mission is “We Serve”. What sets Lions Clubs apart from other charities is that we give all monies raised back to the community. Lions Clubs and Lions International are supported by member dues not donations.
Last year, the Cheshire Lions Club Foundation donated over $21,000 to the Cheshire community. Upon entering Cheshire High School, you will pass the new electronic sign by the driveway. This was made possible by donations from the Cheshire Lions Club, Cheshire PTO, and the Cheshire High School Administration. We also sponsored a Boy Scout Troop and Baseball Team, gave two scholarships to Cheshire residents going on to college, held a Food Truck festival with proceeds going to Cheshire Parks and Rec, Abilities Without Boundaries, and the Cheshire Food Pantry. Besides fun and games, the Lions have made donations to support the elderly, the visually impaired, and the disabled. We’ve donated to: Cheshire Fire and Police Department, Best Buddies, CT Hospice, Cheshire Public Library, CT Chapter Achilles International, CT Lions Eye Research, and many more.
None of these things would happen if it were not for the dedication and devotion of our members. Every year our members donate hundreds of hours to the clubs’ mission “We Serve”. They do this for the benefit of the community. One such member is Dr. Peter Remillard, has been a member of the club since 1993. Peter is an optometrist at Opticare in Cheshire and therefore knows firsthand the hardships visually impaired people face. He joined the Lions to further help the visually impaired community. Peter was approached to help start a half marathon that would benefit the disabled, that race is The Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K. Unselfishly, he agreed to volunteer his time. Peter is still on the Board of Directors and running strong. Peter is affectionately known as the voice of the 5k’ers. He works tirelessly year round fundraising for the event and its charities.
Please consider donating to the Cheshire Lions Club and help us support the Community.
